Preservation Watch

Landmarks at Risk in the 419
Preservation Watch highlights historic structures across the 419 that
are at risk of demolition, neglect, or significant alteration. This watch list exists
to inform the public, document what’s at stake, and provide context before
decisions are finalized. Our goal is to ensure that important buildings are
recognized, understood, and discussed before they’re gone.
Submission Criteria
A building may be featured in the Preservation Watch list if it meets at least
one of the following:
-
A demolition permit has been issued, requested, or publicly discussed
-
The structure is vacant and showing visible signs of deterioration
-
A redevelopment proposal would significantly alter or remove the historic fabric
-
The property has been identified by preservation groups or officials as vulnerable
-
The building holds architectural, cultural, or neighborhood significance but lacks formal protection
What Preservation Watch is Not:
-
A platform for unverified claims or private disputes
-
A replacement for official preservation review processes
-
A space for speculation
Status Tag System
Each building included in the Preservation Watch list will be marked with one visible status tag:
-
🟥 At Risk – Demolition likely or imminent
-
🟨 Under Review – Active discussion, proposal, or permitting underway
-
🟦 Stabilized – Repairs, sale, or preservation plan in progress
