The Survivors
Architecture That Endures
Scattered across Northwest Ohio are architectural survivors—buildings that have weathered the passage of time, outlasting trends, development pressures, and neglect. Constructed between 1845 and 1929, these structures are more than bricks and beams; they are physical testaments to our region’s ambition, craftsmanship, and evolving identity.
The Survivors is a living archive and interactive map created to spotlight these remarkable spaces—many of which stand quietly in our neighborhoods, too often overlooked. By documenting their stories and locations, we aim to make the invisible visible and inspire renewed appreciation for the built environment that shapes our daily lives.

This project, developed in partnership with Dr. Ted Ligibel, is not simply about nostalgia. It is a call to action. These buildings have endured for generations, but they need our collective stewardship to survive the next. Explore the map. Learn their stories. Help us protect what remains.
